Runway to Aisle: Unveiling Wedding Fashion Trends from New York Fashion Week

Happy New York Fashion Week! As the week unfolds with dazzling displays of fashion and haute couture, we are here to discuss what noteworthy collections you can keep an eye on (whether or not you are getting married or are a wedding guest), what you can do to keep your wedding fashion-forward, and how your wedding party can incorporate the Spring 2024 trends into your wedding day.

Why New York Fashion Week Matters In The Wedding World

New York Fashion Week is key in the wedding industry because what graces the runway will inform what we can expect to grace the aisle this coming year. We at Émerveillé Events believe in crafting weddings that are not only elegant, but are fashion forward, and we take design inspiration from fashion. Fashion is a means of self-expression, so what we see on the runway is what inspires us with a wealth of creativity that is unique to you on your wedding day. Whether you are preparing to get married, or just have an appreciation for the artistry of fashion, let’s dive into how night one of New York Fashion Week will inform 2024 wedding trends.

Bridal Fashion

When thinking of wedding dresses and gowns, many details that become popular can be attributed to fashion week. This spring, you can anticipate seeing tiered ruffles, asymmetrical necklines, and ankle strap heels. From Carlos Pineda, we saw some gorgeous gowns displayed during New York Fashion Week’s first evening. A theme that we saw throughout Pineda’s’ designs was the gorgeous and timeless tiered ruffles. In 2024, we will be seeing a lot more tiered ruffles in wedding gowns and reception dresses. In addition, Pineda’s collection brought to us the return of the classic high neckline. High necklines can be incorporated into your wedding day attire through gorgeous sleek gowns such as the Julia by Galia Lahav, which boasts an alluring open back and a flattering fit-to-flare skirt.

Following Carlos Pineda, Elizabeth Silva’s designs then graced the runway on NYFW’s opening night, and Silva’s designs dazzled the runway with pieces that featured a subtle shimmer throughout, and pieces that were sparkly and bold. Don’t be afraid to experiment with a glittering reception outfit inspired by Elizabeth Silva’s designs, such as the glamourous Nala by Galia Lahav. Something that immediately stood out to us as the models were walking the runway in Elizabeth Silva’s pieces is that they all were in ankle strap and block heels, which provide additional ankle support when walking, whether its two inches or six inches. We would highly recommend that if you are looking to wear heels on your wedding day that you consider an ankle strap and/or block heels so that you are secure and as comfortable as can be all day on your wedding.

We had the joy of getting to designer Nizie debut this year on the catwalk. Nizie fearlessly embraced bold embellishments like large bows and fun cutouts, but what really caused us to pause and admire Nizie was the use of asymmetrical necklines throughout their pieces. In 2024, we will see an increase in asymmetrical necklines, and Galia Lahav’s gown Betty is the perfect example of this, featuring a sweetheart corset and a gorgeous scarf that drapes over one shoulder, which will cause jaws to drop.

If you are looking to achieve a runway inspired look when considering hair and makeup for your wedding day inspired by NYFW, sleek straight hair is the way to go.While we've witnessed a wide array of hairstyles in previous years, straight hair unquestionably stole the spotlight on this year's runway. If this sleek and polished look aligns with your vision for your wedding day, here's how to achieve it with confidence: Start by discussing your hairstyle preferences with your skilled hair artist. Request that they expertly straighten your hair, creating a silky-smooth canvas. A middle part can lend an effortlessly chic touch to your overall look. To elevate the elegance of straight hair further, consider pinning back strands of hair behind your ears on each side. This subtle yet impactful detail frames your face beautifully and adds a touch of sophistication. To ensure your hair stays smooth and radiant throughout your special day, work with your hair artist to choose the right setting spray or hair oil that aligns with your hair type and the climate of your wedding location. With this meticulous approach to hairstyling, you'll not only achieve a flawless runway-inspired look but also exude confidence and grace as you walk down the aisle.

Wedding Party Attire

The year of 2023 will be defined by two major pop culture events: the Era’s Tour, and the Barbie Movie. Barbie is an icon who has inspired creativity and confidence for generations, and has been on forefront of the world of fashion. Barbie has inspired many to embrace her famous magenta, and that is not going away anytime soon. We saw this incorporated in Giannina Azar’s designs as models walked the runway in Barbie’s signature pink. Azar made it her own by infusing her designs with bold embellishments such as dramatic balloon sleeves, whimsical feathers, dazzling glitter, and jaw-dropping necklines. Azar's collection embodied the spirit of Barbie while adding her unique artistic touch. If you want your fashion-forward wedding party to stand out on your wedding day, consider having your wedding party in magenta gowns, or going with dashing magenta ties.

Carlos Pineda also presented New York Fashion Week with a gown filled with large floral prints that we become obsessed with. Pineda’s designs featured a stunning set of magenta florals on a midnight black background. If you want your wedding party to stand out, we recommend going with sophisticated floral prints. These floral touches add vibrancy and romance to your celebration, creating a cohesive and memorable atmosphere, inspired by Pineda's runway brilliance.
