10 Things All Brides Should Have In Their Emergency Bags
Emergencies happen. It has probably happened to someone you know where on their wedding day, they had a button come off of their gown, an eyelash starts falling off, or a bridesmaid spilled a drop of pineapple salsa on their dress before the ceremony because they weren’t paying attention to the chip (not that I know from personal experience). It is always best to be prepared for what your wedding day will throw at you. Luckily, we here at Emerveille Events have created a list for what to pack in an emergency bag for the big day, whether you are the bride, maid of honour, or a very prepared bridesmaid.
A sewing kit. Sometimes a button pops off a dress on the way to the venue, or a bridesmaid realises that she may have a lower neckline than what she intended. Regardless the reason, a sewing kit is definitely one of the most useful things to have in your wedding day emergency kit.
Makeup. You can have the most sweat proof makeup ever and there is still a chance that the emotions of the first looks is still going to streak your foundation a bit. Make sure to have spare makeup with you in case your makeup artist isn’t at the venue to help with touch ups throughout the day.
A stain pen. Hopefully nothing gets on your wedding dress on the day of, but you want to be prepared just in case. What is more likely going to happen is that a bridesmaid won’t be paying attention when eating chips and salsa before the wedding and accidentally get a bit on her dress (I was that bridesmaid). Stuff happens and you just want to be prepared for when something spills.
Dress tape. The number of brides and bridesmaids who have more cleavage than they would like or a bra that won’t stay in place is astronomical. Dress tape is your best friend. It is essentially a double sided sticky tape that is strong. I am talking industrially strong. Once you are in that dress tape, nothing will be budging for most of the evening. As a result, I would recommend having someone help you rip it off at the end of the night because if you do it yourself, you may be too slow and hesitant (and trust me when I say it can hurt if it isn’t ripped off fast).
Snacks. Many brides think that because of the nerves and excitement of their wedding day that food is going to be the last thing on their mind. This is the exact opposite of the truth. Once the caterer begins to prep for dinner in the kitchen next to the bridal suite when you are getting ready, the desire for food is going to seem more important than the wedding itself. Save yourself the hunger and pack some snacks to eat throughout the day, then designate someone to bring you and the wedding party lunch so that everyone can stay strong and happy the entire day. The last thing you want is to be hangry in your wedding photos.
Bandaids. When boutineers are being attached to groomsmen or safety pins are helping keep a bridesmaid’s dress together, you never know when someone is going to get pricked and need a bandaid. Even if it is just to help prevent blisters on the back of your heels before dancing starts, bandaids easily make the top ten list.
A steamer. Nearly every wedding that I am a part of requires something to be steamed. Sometimes the groomsmen forget to iron their shirts, or the bridesmaid’s dresses get caught in the dress bags. Make sure that everything is smooth and wrinkle free for photos and bring a steamer. It is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!
Hairspray. Let’s keep those hairstyles looking like you just walked out of the salon even if it has been hours since you last saw your HMUA, even if you have been breaking it down on the dance floor.
Bobby Pins. Let’s be honest. There never seems to be enough, so why not bring extras?
Water. Your wedding day is not the day to be risking a UTI from lack of hydration. Plus, between pictures, standing under the hot sun, and dancing, your body is going to thank you.
